AROMAtherapy
Aromatherapy is one of the oldest method of healing. It rejuvenates the whole body.
This therapy has been in use for many centuries. This therapy uses liquid plant
materials known as Essentials Oils. Australian aborigines ,North American Indians
and many other people were using these fragrant oils.But they never kept any
written records.The knowledge of extracting fragrant oils,making scents out of
it, etc, was passed from mouth to mouth.However Egyptians,Greek and later Romans
described the importance of these oils in their stone tablets . In India we found the
references of using these oils and importance of this therapy in Ayurveda.
This therapy uses liquid plant materials known as Essentials Oils. By 1st century A.D.
fragrances were used in religion, health, beauty and entertainment etc. In 19 th century
the use of fragrances split into two groups,namely
1) Perfumery and cosmetics
2) Pharmaceuticals
Essential oils act on many different levels,
1) Physical level – They are antiseptic and immune system stimulants.They are also
effective for daily first aid for itches,bites,coughs and cold.
2) Emotional level –stimulates conscious and subconcious memories,harmones,
Improving sleep and stress related disorders.
3) Cellular level - Good for healing wounds,repairing scars,protect the skin from
infection.
4) Energy level - Can be applied to acupuncture points to help healing
5) Spiritual level - They have been used for ritual,prayer,purification,celebration
and meditation.
· Some of these Essential oils also act as natural repellents and pesticides.
· Due to the their Aroma or scent ,when inhaled,promotes healing by stimulating
brain to induce a reaction.
· When applied on body, it is absorbed in the bloodstream and help to enhance
health and beauty.
· Nearly 10 to 12 drops of essential oils , blended with other oils is mixed in the
warm water for bath. It stimulates the senses and energises the body.
